As we prepare for the 2015 Bassmaster Classic this month, it’s easy to overlook how the landscape for professional anglers from the western United States has changed over the past few decades. The full-time pros in this year’s Classic field include Brett Hite (Arizona), Jared Lintner (California), Justin Lucas (Alabama, but originally from California), Aaron Martens (same as Lucas), James Niggemeyer (Texas, but originally from California), Brandon Palaniuk (Idaho), Clifford Pirch (Arizona), Dean Rojas (California) and Skeet Reese (California). I don’t know about you, but I think yesterday’s Day 4 of the Forrest Wood Cup held on Lake Murray was one of the most exciting in recent memory. Steve Kennedy’s 20 pound sack to make a run at the title from 10th place, not to mention the one ounce difference between victory and 2nd place, a $440,000 difference! And Scott Canterbury gets second again – what a heartbreaker. Congrats to hometown winner Anthony Gagliardi.

Paul Mueller did B.A.S.S. Nation and the state of Connecticut proud in the recent Bassmaster Classic, finishing second to Randy Howell by a mere pound. His three-day total was 66 pounds, 8 ounces and his Day Two haul of five bass that weighed 32-03 set a record for the largest limit caught in Classic competition (in either the seven-fish or five-fish limit era).
