Monday Trivia – BASSfest Answers and Winner (June 1, 2015)

Jacob Wheeler, the inaugural winner of BASSfest.

Jacob Wheeler, the inaugural winner of BASSfest.

We had a pair of very good guesses, but unfortunately, no winner for this week’s trivia contest sponsored by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. For detailed answers to this week’s question, read below.

This week marks the return of BASSfest. The inaugural event featuring both Elite Series as well as Open anglers was held on Lake Chickamauga in 2014. The winner of that event was Jacob Wheeler, one of the anglers from the Open side of entrants. He edged out Kevin Vandam in a final day shootout that featured both anglers topping the 20 pound mark. This year, the event moves to Kentucky Lake, with just a few minor changes. While there were again invites sent to Open anglers, that offer went out to just the top 10 in each division, and only 11 anglers accepted. Additionally, the Elite Series anglers will be accumulating AOY points based upon their finish in this year’s event. Unfortunately, there was no invitation extended to last year’s winner, meaning their won’t be any chance of a repeat winner, nor of a possible “rivalry” storyline to develop. [Read more…]

Professional bass fishing is full of anglers who should probably get on with their life’s work off of the water, but can’t seem to give up the lure of competition. Some of them are in their twenties and thirties and don’t have the skills to get the job done, while others have passed their physical peak and are no longer competitive. There are even some who fall somewhere in between, suptuagenerians who were once stars but who are now only competitive on occasion.

To cite the old cliché, athletes die twice, and the first time is when they stop competing. [Read more…]

With that boost, all you need to do is be the first to answer the following four questions to win this week’s contest: [Read more…]

Editor’s Note.  In light of the fact that no one answered the questions correctly today, we would normally not have a winner. But, since Steve M got both parts of Question 4 correct and we didn’t catch the incorrect answers for 1, until we already posted he won, we’re going to give it to him this time. For the answers to this week’s contest, read below.

In a B.A.S.S. career that spanned the years from 1993 through 2010, Marty Stone earned two wins, the first of which came during a challenging event on Alabama’s Lake Wheeler in March of 1999. While Wheeler today is known for producing large quantities of bass, even if they’re not typically as big as those in neighboring Guntersville, it was a stingy fishery during the 1999 Bassmaster Top 150. After inclement weather forced the cancellation of Day One, it took less than 16 pounds over two days to make the top 40 and the money. [Read more…]

ProfessionalUnfortunately, no one won this week’s Trivia Contest sponsored by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits! Come back next Monday for a try at next week’s contest. For the answers, read below.

Word has it, the shot of this future pro pictured here was taken right after his mom said he couldn’t go fishing. You probably want a better hint than that, so here goes. This professional just recently surpassed the $1 million mark in total earnings when combining both B.A.S.S. and FLW winnings. One more clue – that million includes wins on both of the major Tour circuits.

In order to win this week’s trivia contest, answer the following three questions correctly:

1.Who is the angler in the picture?
2.Which Tour events did this angler win?
3.What other professional athlete did he notably go fishing with earlier this year?

The answer and winner will be announced Thursday. Good Luck!

Congratulations to Steve Quinn for winning this week’s Bass Fishing Archives Trivia Contest sponsored by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. For the answers, please read below.

Nearly three decades after his Bassmaster Classic win, the late Charlie Reed remains one of the least well-known Classic champions. By the time he qualified for his first Classic in 1986, he was already past the half-century mark, and the victory that week in Chattanooga marked the high point of a B.A.S.S. career that lasted just 11 more years. His last event was a 1997 tournament on Lake Neely Henry. He finished 5th. [Read more…]
