[Editor’s Note: Dan Basore has been around competitive bass fishing since its inception. He’s won on a national level in 1970 and since that time has devoted his life to the sport as a historian, collector and teacher of the sport. Dan recently sent in this letter to us here regarding Ray Scott and B.A.S.S. and felt it was worthy of publishing.]

As one of the early Charter/Life members of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, and a fan of bass fishing and tournaments, I like many in attendance at the FLW CUP were happy and moved to see the tributes to Forrest L. A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting Guy Eaker at his home here in North Carolina. If you haven’t heard, Guy has a veritable museum at his house when it comes to bass fishing memorabilia, tackle and anything else that’s relative to the fishing industry. He was kind enough to spend the entire day going through old memorabilia he’s accumulated over the course of his 40-year career in the industry. But that’ll be another story for another time and one you won’t want to miss.

All that aside, there was one thing that I saw at Guy’s house that jogged my memory and is something I can share with you today as a stand-alone piece. That one thing was the Eaker Shaker. [Read more…]

Bryan Thrift’s narrow 2006 Stren victory over Bobby Lane on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee wasn’t Thrift’s first win with FLW Outdoors. He’d won two other AAA-level tournaments with them the prior year, one on Lake Eufaula and the other on Santee Cooper. However, in both of those efforts he’d been a co-angler. The 2006 trophy was the first one he’d won with them from the front of the boat. Of course, he’s gone on to have a stellar career, with FLW Tour victories in 2010 and 2011, and he also earned the AOY title in 2010. He followed up those accomplishments with a win at the 2012 Toyota Texas Bass Classic. [Read more…]
