Congrats to Adam Hinkle, who won this week’s trivia contest which is sponsored by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. Read below for the rest of the story, and get ready to play again next Monday.

The FLW Cup has been over for more than a month, and the Bassmaster Tour just wrapped up for the year a couple weeks back. But all this cool weather has me remembering back to when the Bassmaster Classic was a summer event, and the start of the Tour season actually began during the fall of the previous year, carrying over into the following spring. The last time it happened has been more than a decade ago. So, to win this week’s trivia contest, we’re going to go back to that last “cross-over” season and have you try and answer the following 3 trivia questions;
1.This angler finished in the Top 10 in all 3 fall events held that year, including back-to-back wins. Name the angler (see pic).
2.What interesting “role” did his wife play during the second event of that season?
3.This angler has been reported to have several Tour superstitions over the years. Name one of them.

The answers follow below.

Getting the correct angler was the key to this week’s contest, and our winner did just that by identifying Davy Hite. That final 2001-2002 crossover season was considered a breakout year for Davy. Not only did he win the first two events back-to-back, he also finished 10th in the third event of the season (December 2001) on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. At that point he was seriously being considered as a threat to win the AOY crown with his big lead, a feat he would go on to do, winning wire-to-wire, though it did come down to  the final event of the year to determine.

Davy’s wife Natalie played a role in that second event in the sense that while calling home to check in during a practice day, Natalie let Davy in on a dream she had that he would win the event, making for back-to-back victories. Davy originally laughed at the idea, stating that on the day they spoke, he hadn’t even caught a keeper in practice. Never doubt a woman’s intuition though, as Davy did end up winning that event.

As for superstitions, a recent Bassmaster article stated that Davy actually has several. For starters, he is one of the few anglers on Tour that KVD will share his wife’s famous “lucky cookies” with. Davy also is said to carry a pair of old rusted pliers in his boat, a pair that belonged to his granddad, as good luck. But the strangest of them all is that he once stated that he wore the same boxer shorts for every day of a tournament. Of course, he also stated that he washed them after each day on the water.

Thanks for playing this week’s trivia contest, and be sure to join us next Monday for another chance to win!
