Congratulations to Kurt Mazurek for winning this week’s Bass Fishing Archives Trivia Contest! For the answers, please read below.

No this week we’re not giving away Megabucks to the winner. It’ll be the same $25 e-coupon from Gary Yamamoto Custom baits – which is a pretty good deal. Instead, with the Classic, just over, we’re going to switch gears and talk a little about the Bassmaster Megabucks series of events that was held between 1986 and 2001.

Megabucks was an event spawned to bring spectator participation into professional bass fishing and even television. With the field cut to only 10 anglers in the final round, they would fish the first-ever hole course in bass fishing, allowing shoreline spectators and boaters to witness the action. The first event was a success and there began the Megabucks.

With all this in mind, Harold Sharp, B.A.S.S.’s first tournament director, sent us in some questions for you to answer about the Megabucks events. The first person to answer them all correctly will win. Here they are:

  1. In the 16 Megabucks events there were two anglers who won multiple times. Who were they and how many times did they win?
  2. What year did B.A.S.S. have two Megabucks events and where were they held?
  3. There was one year that B.A.S.S. didn’t hold a Megabucks event. What year was that?

Here are the answers:

Larry Nixon won four Bassmaster Megabucks events from 1988 to 1991. Photo unknown source.

Most everyone knows that Larry Nixon of Bee Branch, AR won four of the Bassmaster Megabucks events – in 1988 (The Harris Chain of Lakes), 1990 (The Harris Chain of Lakes), 1990 (Guntersville) and 1991 (Chickmauga). But not many fans of the sport remember Arkansas angler Doug Garrett also won the event twice, back-to-back, on Lake Richland Chambers (1997) and Old Hickory (1998).

If you got part one of this trivia quiz right, then it was easy to determine the answer for the second question. There were two Megabucks events held in 1990 – again on The Harris Chain and Guntersville.

The Bassmaster Tournament Trail didn’t hold a Megabucks event in 1994.
