Bass Wars; A Story of Fishing, Fame and Fortune

[Editor’s Note: The weekly Bass Fishing Archives Monday Trivia Contest, sponsored by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, has proven to be a bit harder to win than we initially thought. So, in order to help contestants a little bit, every one of the answers to the contest can be found in the books, magazine and/or web articles listed in each contest. If you’ve got the magazines and books, they should only require a bit of research. If not, they may prove a little harder to figure out, unless you have a photographic memory.]

Two weeks ago Brian penned a great piece about Nick Taylor’s book “Bass Wars” on the 25th anniversary of its publication – including input from the author and from longtime pro angler Randy Blaukat. It’s a book I reread nearly every year and each time through I’m amazed by some little snippet or factoid that I’d forgotten.

This week’s trivia contest is a test of your reading comprehension skills. In order to win, all you need to do is answer the following four questions about minutiae from Taylor’s book:

  1. Rick Clunn was quoted as stating that which one of his competitors was “the lousiest best-known fisherman I know”?
  2. Why was Clunn reportedly perturbed with the fisherman who is the answer to Question #1?
  3. How many colleges did Taylor report that Randy Moseley attended before turning to a career in fishing?
  4. Which Federation angler made a splash in the 1986 Bassmaster Classic?

The answers and winner will be announced Thursday. Good Luck!

  • Glenn

Rick Clunn was quoted as stating that which one of his competitors was “the lousiest best-known fisherman I know”? Orlando Wilson
Why was Clunn reportedly perturbed with the fisherman who is the answer to Question #1?
He didn’t think Wilson could find his own fish.
How many colleges did Taylor report that Randy Moseley attended before turning to a career in fishing? 3 colleges
Which Federation angler made a splash in the 1986 Bassmaster Classic?
    Danny Correia

    • Glenn, you almost have it. Only missing one answer,

  • John Karbowski

    1. Orlando Wilson
    2. He couldn’t find his own fish.
    3. 4 colleges
    4. Danny Correia

    • John, you’re missing two answers.

  • Chris Nietzel

I just did a speed read of the book, seems like Glenn is correct?

  • Jeff Hahn

    1. Orlando Wilson
    2. Because in an interview, Clunn felt that Wilson implied that Clunn, the all time B.A.S.S. money winner at the time, had no business fishing against weekend fishermen on the Red Man trail, where Clunn had just won the All American the previous October.
    3. 3 colleges in 3 years
    4. Danny Correia
